Recognising the diverse needs of individuals and populations is a core component of providing good quality health care. It is well known that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are reluctant to use mainstream health services and even less likely to use specialist palliative care services. The Victorian Aboriginal Palliative Care Collaborative (VAPCC) has been working to identify the issues surrounding this and explore solutions for improving Aboriginal peoples access to palliative care.
The VAPCC is conducting a survey aiming to identify current levels of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural knowledge and organisational initiatives within the palliative care sector in Victoria.
The VAPCC objective is to maximise existing strengths and enablers as well as address barriers which Aboriginal people face in receiving culturally appropriate palliative care in Victoria. VAPCC is funded by the Department of Health and Human Services palliative care program.
This survey is intended for those who are currently working in the palliative care sector in Victoria. This includes:
- Clinicians and practitioners
- Palliative care teams
- Volunteers
- Managers
- Administrative team members
- Other support members
Please note this survey is not intended for patients and their family caregivers. The survey will take approximately 30 minutes. All responses will be confidential.
